Dr. Louis J. Guérin has 15 years of experience in the design, manufacture and use of microsystems. He studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where he received an engineer’s degree in micro-engineering in 1990. In 1996, he received his Ph.D. from the same institution on the packaging of integrated circuits by methods of multi-chip-on-silicon. He then worked as a post-doc assistant at the EPFL in the field of microsystems. From 2000 to 2003, he was the Technical and Scientific Director in the Swiss company SOTEC Microsystems where he dealt with the development of thick photosensitive resins (1 to 500 micrometers thickness) and their applications in microsystems. Since 2003, Louis is established in Luxembourg where has been working as a consulting engineer in the field of the microtechnologies and nanotechnologies and teaches physics of microelectronic circuits at the University of Luxembourg. His current interests are in the applications of new methods of numerical simulations (meshless simulations) in the nanotechnologies. Louis is an advocate of creating a nanotechnology center with strong links between the University of Luxembourg and specialized companies.
